Minorly off topic, but this reminds me of my first SS20 system back in the
late 90's (97 or so?). I had dual processors -- I am not sure which ones
now, it's been a great many years -- and I was running it in a building
that itself was already WAY hot in summer to begin with so I had
overheating issues.
I made a device out of 2 slim fans, some paper clips, and some rubber
bands. The fans were rigged to literally sandwich the two mbus boards
between them, using some carefully cut pieces of cardboard as like some
padding to keep the fans from directly touching the boards, and I never had
cooling problems after that. The case would even still close! Looking
back, I'm shocked that it worked. I remember after several YEARS of
running with this setup, I was dismantling the SS20 to sell it for parts,
and the rubber bands fell apart to dust but had still managed to hold after
years of heat.
Young and stupid, I was :)
