To the best of my knowledge, none of the Irix sources have ever turned
up in the wild,
legally or otherwise. If you have a project that absolutely needs OS
source, you'll need to
look at NetBSD and use an onboard framebuffer.

But really, these days the best way to appreciate the glories of what
was is by getting the
best MIPS cpu(s) you can, as much ram as you can and load 6.5.30 and
be done.  There
are a few resources but Nekochan is gone and really that _was_ the
IRIX community.

OTOH, I'd love to be wrong about the above ;)

Good luck with what you decide to do. I'm going to stick to playing
with Alphastations. Got
my eye on a DS10L baby server...
