Interesting and maybe worth me looking at it someday. Switching build
systems is a HUGE deal and not something to be done lightly. If
collectively the team agrees that the benefits are worth it, then
great.
However, I've been at more than one company where "rewrites" were
considered useful and "better" only to squander tens of man years into
an effort that only yielded the same system you started with after all
that effort was invested. Just think of what kinds of new products
you could have been making instead. I think for at least one team I
worked on where we did a "rewrite" project, investing that same effort
in prototyping new applications might have prevented the entire team
from being laid off. But without actual A/B experiments, it's hard to
do anything but wonder "what if....".
