I tried running Linux on Alphas many years ago. I wasn't particularly
impressed, but then Linux in general really didn't impress me much back
then either. (times sure have changed)
For that hardware I'd recommend NetBSD. I've not run it on an Alpha
recently, but a few years ago it used to be quite good on that platform.
