Yes, I have encountered it as well.
And CD-R/DVD-R/DVD+R can fade away even quicker as well.
Probably the most effective cure is to keep copying things along to whatever
newest medium is every 4-5 years or so, or on a few generations of hard drives.
Or put your faith into M-DISC (made to last up to 1000 years).
