My anecdotal evidence is that most of the floppy disks I bought in the
1980s and early 1990s still have readable data on them, and all the ones
I've tried to read recently are good enough to be usable.

Diskettes that I bought after the mid-1990s are almost entirely trash.
They were getting sector errors already a decade ago.
