all pre-ultras require the jumper.  it was only late in that era
that the cdrom command set was enhanced to include a blocksize mode
select, so obp2 and earlier don't have it.  by the time ultras and
obp3 - and dvds - came around the enhancements were omnipresent.

if it's a sun drive it should already be jumpered.

i've heard that too.  older drives seem to need a good hot burn - less
sensitive i suppose.
