Thank you for the ideas. I updated my script and  kaboom. :)

It gave me a huge amount of interesting errors :D Especially the SCSI
command dump.

When all was said and done, the most useful information seems to be

sr0: SCSI Transport failed: reason 'data_ovr': retrying command
hsfs: interleaf factor or skip factor error
hsfs_mount: remakenode error
mount_hsfs:  /dev/sr0 on /cdrom: invalid argument
mount: giving up on /cdrom

Smells almost like the cdrom fs on the iso created by my windows software
is just a bit too far extended from high sierra. Gives me something to look
into as well as added impetus to get TUN/TAP working to let the VM talk to
the world - especially via ftp.
