A caveat nobody else has mentioned:

Depending on just how moden your Ubuntu system is, you could be
running GNOME on Wayland instead of X.org. If you have Wayland then I
think all these instructions about `xhost +` and so on won't work at
all.

Check on the login screen, and make sure that you are running
(whatever desktop you use, you didn't specify) on X or X.org, and not
on Wayland.

Secondly, did you know that your email is sprinkled with random
capital letter Bs after every other full stop?
