Given the lack of details here, this could be anything from "something
recognizable is printed during POST but it's not in the OFW tree and
nothing further sees it" all the way to "everything's fine except when
I configure it up it doesn't pass packets".

An old boot ROM version might account for it not being in the OFW
device tree; another IPX, with a different boot ROM version, might
haandle it just fine.  Or the hardware could be slightly broken, so
that everything works except packets don't actually flow.  Or any of
various things in between.
