And the latch thingy that pulls the tape out of the cassette gets 
unhooked. Trivial to fix.
To my experience the tapes are the problem. Some years ago I tried to 
write 2.11BSD boot / install tapes for a friend. All the tapes I tried 
where "sticky". The binder of the magnetic coating breaks down due to 
its age. Same for 9 track tapes. I since have given up on tapes entirely.
