Hear hear! Not to mention nearly 30 years of UTF-8... But most systems seemed
to have their fingers in their ears about non-ASCII characters until the last
decade or so, and plenty of people keep up the fight (because dealing with
Unicode properly in C is more work?)

Some of the discussion in this thread makes me imagine some corresponding
complaints about snail-mail:

- "Harrumph, if the postmark isn't centered on the stamp, I throw it straight
into the trash. If they really wanted to contact me, they'd use a more
reliable local post office."
- "The envelope arrived crinkled... kids these days, no respect for proper
mail ettiquette!"
- "The fool, he used a *formal letter* instead of an *informal letter*. Sorry,
nephew, I stopped reading after the salutation!"
