As Mouse mentioned, your creator3D sounds like it's doing 8bpp. The creator3D is 24bpp capable and you can add "defdepth 24" to /usr/dt/config/Xservers to get 24bpp.

I get the same symptom on my Ultra 60 with Creator3D. Once the SunPCi window is closed the colors revert back to normal.
