But shortly after sending my previous message I found this:

Seems to have a much more in depth discussion on this issue.  Pin 25 does indeed seem to be “dead air” on this machine and presumably others more recent.

This thread of messages there also talks about the nuances of “real” break signals vs. spurious / glitch signals.  I see mention in here of putting the resistor on pin 7 as well…
