Try Port B, it may be set as the default non-video console in NVRAM. If you hook up to Port A and flip the diag-switch, you should be able to get console there.

These are actually quite available -- up until sometime end of last year/beginning of this year, Monoprice still sold them. You'll need DD50M to DD50M, but no one seems to know it's called a DD50, so search "DB50 cable" on eBay, etc. Should be around $20.

There exist Sun part numbers for DD50M -> * -- I even have a DD50M to HD68 somewhere in the box-o-Sun cables! DD50M -> HD50 is fairly easy to find, but some of the other combinations are somewhat less common.
