Liam, I worked on a Pick system back in the mid 80's. These were
Microdata machines, later taken over by McDonnell Douglas Information
Systems.

One of the other big players at the time was Ultimate which produced
Pick co-processor boards that fitted into certain Vax machines from
memory. There were also other hosting hardware like Group Bull
(Honeywell) DPS6? and many Motorola based hardware solutions from NCR,
Adds-Mentor... and a few curiosities like the Sanyo-Icon.

Pick was indeed an interesting environment to work with and very much
aimed at the business market. Very low operator involvement required.
As another poster said, it had an integrated database which is a bit of
an understatement. Every object in the file system; source code file,
object file, document file etc, were all records in a database.

I don't believe there was ever any Sparc port done for Pick although
there were a number of software implementations produced which ran on
various hardware... Prime Information, being one of the main ones.
There was also VMark Universe which ran on various Intel Unixes... and
others.
