So, yeah, don't buy off eBay/AliExpress/Amazon/whatever.

They do. The fakes come with fake datecodes.

Yes, this or rebuild your originals. You can do the usual "cut into it and patch a battery in on wires" method, or we designed a repair board because we had so many to refurb on a big job:

The above has the benefit of being faster, especially if you're doing a bunch, cleaner, and it's about the same height as the original (doesn't matter so much on the Ultra 2).
