[SPARCbook] sparcbook

I must say... that in addition to Linux, I am extremely satisfied with the
latest 10.1 version of Mac OS X, running on a 500 Mhz powerbook Pismo.
It is extremely nimble at FTP, Apache, and numerous other BSD compiled apps.
It can run circles around a sparc ultra.
I mean my SparcBook 3GX is cool, because it runs Solaris and all... but once
I got a compiler on my OS X powerbook, it became a very usable UNIX machine.
Not only that.. it has a 30 gig drive and 1 gig of RAM that it sees all of
with no problems.

I thought I was going to be dissapointed with the Powerbook compared to my
SparcBook....  (as far as construction quality, performance etc.) but I find
that it is pretty well-built as well. Plus... I even have 100Mbit ethernet,
USB, and IEE 1394 compatible devices working under a BSD kernel.

Just a thought... I had been considering a serious UNIX laptop investment...
but I think that I will go with the PowerBook as my main terminal window. I
even have the 802.11b wireless card installed, and it works like a charm...
7-8 hours of continuous battery power, wireless.

I had no idea how cool Mac OS X was. The PowerBook was under $2,000.00.

I sill love my venerable 3GX... and maybe if I get the RAM ugraded past 32
MB... it will perform better... But everything is so expensive for it.. that
I might just have to make the move...
