Sure it'll work correctly, you'll just have problems controlling the 
loader. Don't know the L9, but it will probably have a mode where the 
next tape in the library is loaded when a tape is ejected.

Also there is some freeware s/w that might control the robot arm --- 
mtx, and some others. No guarantees though.

Going for the Netbackup options (even if they seem expensive) does mean 
your backups will be more easily configured.
