[SunHELP] GNU and Solaris xmkmf

ok, the Solaris xmkmf is putting flags in the Makefile that gcc doesn't
understand.  i'm assuming these are for Forte Developer (what a goofy name,
they should have left it be what it was)

is there a way to get xmkmf to output sane Makefiles?  will the GNS xmkmf make
non-broken Makefiles?  what's the correct solution?  right now i'm editing the
Makefiles by hand, and it hasn't been fun so far.
