[SunHELP] boot -s doesn't mount /opt

well I can but if i forget, then when I ufsdump it doesn't get opt's data.
/usr /var are set to not mount at boot but the OS will still mount those
in single user mode.

the fsck pass number might be your culprit, but if you're booting
single user you must be there, right?  why not just 'mount /opt'
manually?
