afaik a cdrom driver isn't needed; it's just a scsi devide and the
boot cds are formatted ufs like a hd, not hsfs like regular cdroms.
your cd drive is set for 512-byte blocks?  obp 3 and up will issue the
blocksize mode-select command, but obp 2 doesn't have it.  real old cd
drives don't, either.

at first blush i'd expect sun media dvds to be formatted ufs like
their cdroms.  obquestion: your 'cd' drive is actually a dvdrom drive?
