It looks like they both use a RP2350 and run very similar firmware from the Open Source ecosystem. Performance-wise the ZuluSCSI and BlueSCSI firmwares are very similar.
It’s worth looking at the BlueSCSI UltraWide option at https://jcm-1.com or find a distributor in your region at https://bluscsi.com which is not currently available in SCA but there are plans to bring one to market. Unfortunately the price will still be up in the 80s-90s USD for those too. SCA 80-pin connectors are expensive, and not so straightforward to source these days.
I support BlueSCSI when I buy simply for price and on principle as Alex Perez at RabbitHole has been a real jerk about some stuff related to code RHC released under an open source license, and is price gouging IMHO. He’s going after the enterprise market - he really doesn’t care much about hobbyists.
The BlueSCSI team have many times, in contrast, gone above and beyond to ensure people get the support they deserve and actively engage with the hobbyist market, keeping prices as reasonable as they can. Eric Helgesson actually sent me a modded firmware file once so I could image a AS400 hard drive, just because he was curious about what I was doing and wanted to help.
