AFAIK ATA/ATAPI is already almost SCSI over IDE cables. E.g. NetBSD
never distinguished SCSI and ATAPI CDROMs like Linux. They are all
driven by cd(4) and show up as /dev/cd?a. The same for IDE/ATAPI tapes,
they are handled by st(4). NetBSD can also attach a ATAPI disk with the
sd(4) driver.
