I think that varies from place to place. When my wife taught for the
Philly public schools, she received 1/12 of her published salary every
month, although she did not work July and August.

Teachers hired before the early 1970's had a choice of getting 10 checks
or 12, but in either case it totaled the published salary.

Here she works for a private school which pays her 11 checks each 1/12
of her salary and a double check at the end of June as they are closed
for all of July.
