There are places outside the US which have different laws, where it is
perfectly legal to "spam" someone who has previously done business with
your company.
Personally whether or not it is legal, it is still worth distinguishing
between the lowest form of spammer who uses botnets to sell herbal
mortgages on low-interest viagra analogues (who need to be slowly
impaled on an old splintered groyne

spammers' who use legitimate addresses, their own servers to send spam
directly, and who claim a business relationship (who merely need to be
re-educated by repeated thwacks with an appropriate tool --- a big
stick about 1.5 metres long with long rusty nails attached at the
business end).
