It is.  It's pretty much the de-facto industry standard now, currently
up to LTO8.

I changed my backup scheme from disk-to-disk-to-tape to
disk-to-disk-to-removable-disk precisely because I got utterly sick of
replacing my LTO drive every couple of years.  IMO, don't even think
about using LTO without a clean-room environment, unless you have money
to burn on replacement drives.
