for those of you who prefer openwindows on our old iron --

a while ago - longer than i like to think [lazy me] - the root drive
on my main system coughed some blocks up and died. i was able to
recover quite a bit from it but not everything.

i had been running s8 b/c i wanted opewindows, but having learned a
bit in the 15-odd years since i set it up i thought i'd see what i
could make out of s9. i have media.

reasoning on backward compatibility, i tried installing ow 3.6.1 from
the s8 media. it works! i had to move a handful of files in
manually, perhaps being too hasty in the pkgadd, but none of the files
conflicted, i didn't have to edit anything, or even reboot. i logged
out, and ow was displayed as an option. i selected it and logged in,
and have my [recovered] old desktop.

my s8 system was fully patched up to the week - perhaps even the day -
that public patch access ended. what i don't have are s9 patches, and
i would like them.

a recent patchdiag.xref indicates s9 support ended about '15.

if vague plans mature, i'll be moving my setup from its present
u1/200e to a thinkpad, and i'll want to repeat this experiment with
s10 x86. i have the thinkpad [a t500] but not the media.

in that light, does anyone know of a solaris driver for the thinkpad
mouse pointer?
