OK, Cisco-compatible USB-serial cable obtained.
Find that at least one serial port on the first machine I tried is dead.
Disconnect kvm. Use that known-working port instead.
Enable USB serial support. Enable all USB serial modules. Reboot machine.
USB-serial chip identified (FTDI FT232 single port).
fdti-sio module loaded. /dev/TTYUSB0 present. Turn the rest back off.
setserial installed.
tio installed.
X4540 powered up.
tio /dev/ttyUSB0 -b 9600 (n-8-1 is default).
No response from the service controller via serial console.
Send a couple of breaks (Ctrl-t b in tio). Still no response.
Primary and management Ethernet ports both showing good link. Neither
responding on network.
Completely and utterly unresponsive. Zip. Nada.
I don't know why I'm even trying to keep my Solaris skills up anyway.
It's not like I'm ever going to get paid to use them ever again. I'm
about ready to throw in the towel and buy a QNAP or something.
