Wait!  I got something.  I've got the serial console working and have 
been able to run BIOS setup, load defaults and set the clock.  It gets a 
LITTLE further now but the console is garbage.  Trying to attach a 
screenshot, no idea whether the list will allow it.  It seems to be 
trying to show me a menu for something, perhaps boot device selection, 
but it's completely illegible.

Might it be trying to display the console using some bizarre whacked-out 
set of control codes?
