Well, a PowerEdge Expandable RAID Controller is inherently a /RAID/
controller.

Though based on my experience with R720s at $WORK, I'd suggest replacing
the PERC with an HBA so that you can bypass the problem all together.

I would anticipate that you can remove the PERC module from it's special
slot on the motherboard and replace it with a compatible HBA. We've
switched between a number of different PERCs and HBAs across R710s,
R720s, R730s, and R740s.

Ya, trade the PERC for a simple HBA. I'd assume you can pick one up on
the 2nd hand market for not too much money.

You might test the PERC and make sure that it works properly with the
intention of selling it after you get the HBA working. I suspect there
are plenty of non-ZFS users that would appreciate the PERC more than ZFS
users. ;-)
