Ah, I didn't realize there were two different T43p models.  That could
be important.

Possibly.  If it comes to that, I'd have to decide whether getting the
thing back in full operation is worth tolerating the web-forum
paradigm.

Someone did suggest (I have conflicting memories of where it was, some
say email and some say IRC) that I might be able to move mechanical
keyboard parts between the T43 and the T43p even though I can't move
the whole keyboard.  That strikes me as a reasonable idea; I certainly
have little to lose by trying it.  The T43 is a less interesting
machine - 1400x1050 instead of 1600x1200, and, while it works when I
put a charged battery in it, the AC adapter jack appears to be
completely nonfunctional.  I may be able to get it far enough apart to
fix that, if it's fixable, but I also may not.  (I did once have a
machine which had apparently suffered some mechanical impact; I
unsoldered the jack and ran wires out through the hole it used to
occupy.  Worked fine, until I stopped using that machine for reasons I
no longer remember.)
