[rescue] The end of alpha

I dunno,
Compaq buying DEC always seemed a little strange to me. Compaq makes
very nice x86 machines on their high end, and pretty poor quality ones on
their low end. Research (to me) has never seemed to be a large part of what
the company did. The aquisition of Digital seemed to me to be a bragging
thing, "If we buy Digital, maybe people will think we are a real computer
company".
    just my opinion
