I've replaced all of my mice on my "mainstream" systems with padless
opticals:
Mac G4 Cube: Apple Pro Mouse
SunBlade 100: Logitech MouseMan Optical (the $19.95 version) USB
SunBlade 1000: Logitech MouseMan Optical USB
PC: Logitech MouseMan Optical USB
For a couple of years, I exclusively used the Logitech TrackMan
Marble ("thumb ball") or Marble FX ("cue ball under fingers, hand
on its side") trackballs, but I eventually drifted back to mice for
things.
Amy prefers the Marble FX. I think we've gone through 2 or 3 of them
in the past four years. Well worth the money spent.
(in fact, I think our original Marble FX, which we've still got -
its worn shiny-smooth in some places - was the very first thing she
ever brought for me, when we were running around Austin the weekend we
met in person and happened to go slumming at CompUSA.. So, we refuse to
throw it away..)
