Thought this might be of interest to the list. Imgur link below for pics (hopefully thats kosher rule-wise).
I just recapped 2 x 411 PSU’s. It went fine, they both work and voltages are ok. However both of them had 2 specific caps that had leaked terribly. I’m talking dark brown discharge, horrible smell etc. Most importantly it wasn’t doing the PCB any favors. Even though these work (and have been thoroughly cleaned up) I was still a little leery of running these for any period of time.
So I made a “dummy” PSU that takes an external generic molex 5/12 PSU (like you would use to power external drives for testing). It’s dead simple - literally just a 3d printed shell, and a PCB from PCBWay. It’s way overkill but it was a fun project and let me get some more practice in Kicad / PCB design work.
I tried to design a power switch to go in as well, but opted for an inline c13 switch (see pics). To do a switch would require some rearranging because of the molex and switch being right next to each other.
The connectors for the fan + SCSI board use some 2-pin dupont pin/header plugs, but they have a small spring clip. I managed to find someone in China on eBay that had these. Could have probably used standard headers, but I was in this far so… :) This also let me avoid cannibalizing the harness from the actual PSUs.
