My memory is fuzzy on this, but IIRC a similar error occurs on real
hardware when the CDROM is a 'standard' 2048-bytes-per-sector device,
rather than a 512-bytes-per-sector. Could it be that the image is OK
but QEmu is emulating a 2048bps device? Pretending the ISO is a hard
drive instead of a CDROM device would set it to 512bpc, as a regular
hard drive.
Looking through some archives, if my notes are correct, the way I
installed 4.1.4 in QEmu was the following (that was a long time ago,
command-line may have changed):
~/qemu/sparc-softmmu/qemu-system-sparc -monitor
tcp::4444,server,nowait -bios ss5.bin -m 96 -hda sunos414.img -hdb
Solaris1_1_2.iso -hdc sunos414home.img -M SS-5 -nographic -redir
tcp:4423:10.0.2.15:23
The ISO md5sum:
ede0690b3cb3d2abb6bddd8136912106 ISOs/Solaris1_1_2.iso
And two virtual hard drives of 2 GiB each. At the time I might have
patched Qemu to save/restore the nvram content (don't want to reset
diag-mode every time!), hopefully it's no longer needed.
Cordially,
