I was thinking the same thing. I started thinking about whether I had
any spare hardware I could send them, then realized it was pretty clear
they'd already made their decision. I'm sure we could have collectively
FLOODED the with SPARC hardware.
This feels like "We don't actually want to support SPARC any more, and
we're using a lack of test hardware to justify it. The entire world is
x86_64 anyway."
(Or AMD64, as it should be called, seeing as AMD invented the
architecture as a much simpler and better way of achieving the goals of
Intel's IA64 arch. But Intel couldn't stand the thought of anything
going out the door with the letters 'AMD' anywhere on it.)
