Beyond the frequency (modern monitors don't have the input bandwidth
old multisync CRTs used to have), beware  the synchronization signals.
Separate sync, composite sync, sync-on-green ; it's possible the
converters only like separate sync of 'true' VGA, while many monitors
also accept the others.
Older 13w3 framebuffer might be composite sync only.

Monitor incompatibility is why I'm prototyping a framebuffer in the
SBusFPGA...
