You could try bypassing POST by holding Stop while turning on the machine.
There should be a line that says something like "Stop key detected.
Skipping POST" and then you can release the key.
It might also be worth clearing NVRAM settings - hold Stop and N while
turning on the machine until you see the system banner that displays the
CPUs and memory.
Did it boot successfully before your NVRAM modifications? It sounds like
you modified the original NVRAM - do you have another one you could try
swapping it with?
