Thank you very much Jonathan, I'll give that a go over the weekend. The ram installed in the V240 was pc2700r but sadly it is DDR1. I have an absolute stack of PC2700R and PC3200R DDR2 ram left over from old Proliant systems but it won't be useable here.

Mixed CPU speeds should work, but would only operate both at the
slowest clock speed. That's the general SUNW rule of thumb.
RAM I don't know about. I don't remember if there was an independent
MMU but thinking that it is a IIIi CPU, that little "i" means
integrated, with integral stuff like IDE controllers and MMUs (same
CPUs soldered into the boards of the Sun Blade 100/150, etc.) I guess
if the different sizes are done by bank it would be OK, but it would
be worth checking the FEH. I forgot if these took standard things like
PC3200 RAM or some oddball sun stuff.
