[rescue] SGI

I mean, there is no "practical" reason to run an SGI box - you can buy a
$200 laptop with 4GB RAM, put FreeBSD on it and use it for all kinds of
networking, routing, and programming etc. purposes, and it will run rings
around the SGI box in terms of performance for well under 35W continuous.
However running SGI with IRIX would let you see how things used to be, and
see how the IRIX developers solved issues with the X11 window manager etc.
in a way that is different from today's much more bloated GNOME desktops.
It's a pleasure to use something that is well-integrated with the hardware
and software working together.
I still have fond memories of the R10K Indigo2 Extreme that I used as a
desktop for a while, 20 years ago; with that big 20" Trinitron tube and the
crisp text...
